Stoney Creek Camps are small and special.

Programming is flexibly suited to each camper's needs and goals. All students play silly mounted games to relax and have fun with horses while developing a strong seat and leg. Campers also have formal daily riding instruction. Everyone grooms, tacks up, bathes, feeds and takes care of their pony. Though there are 3 themes, each camp week runs similarly and culminates with a special schooling horse show to demonstrate to parents newly acquired confidence and equitation skills.

Conveniently situated on a privately owned historic farm in close-in Potomac, this little barn leaves lastling memories.

Saddle Club Student Camp

This special week is dedicated to independent riders who take lessons with The Saddle Club. We will go off-campus as much as possible and will enjoy trail rides and visiting other equine facilities. One special treat will be a field trip to hang out with the Presidential Capon at Fort Meade. The girls will get to meet these majestic horses and amazing trainers and check out the newly rennovated beautiful barns. The girls will ride, ride, ride and share their common love for all things horsey. Attending for a partial week of this camp is acceptable due to the changing schedule of Montgomery County Schools.

Junior Vet Camps

This camp is perfect for those equine vet-wanna-bes. While the children will still enjoy the same amount of riding, this special camp includes programming particularly interesting to Campers who love to care for animals. They will be given their very own medical supply kit; they will learn about wound care and the best way to use vet wrap; they will administer worming paste; hoof oil and any topical skin care ointments necessary. They will Equine Explorers campers will meet every morning with morning message about horses and horse care.  They will be expected to do barn chores and care for the ponies before riding and playing mounted pony games. They will be visited by an equine vet, dentist and a farrier.

Horse Show Camps

Students have a great time taking their riding skills on-the-road. This debut camp will have all the same riding and horsemanship lessons as the other weekly camps but it will also take advantage of a fabulous opportunity to show on Thursday evening (4:00pm) at beautiful SummerPlace Farm in The Plains, VA. This is a low pressure experience and just gives the children a casual introduction to horse showing. Show attire is informal. There are classes for everyone:

1. LeadLine (walk with someone leading the rider)
2. Pleasure - Walk, Trot
3. Pleasure - Walk, Trot, Canter
4. Pleasure - Walk, Trot, Go As You Please
5. Low Hunters - Under Saddle
6. Low Hunters - Over Fences 2' - 2'3"

All About Horses Camps

This well rounded camp explores riding and horsemanship in both English and Western disciplines. The campers will enjoy riding twice a day both in the ring and on the trail. They may take a ride down to the creek where they can giggle at the ponies tip-toeing and splashing in the water. The biggest treat of the week is GOLDIE! Goldie is a giant golden percheron who just happens to be a top rated vaulting lesson horse. Every camper will get a lesson in standing and doing acrobatics on sweet Goldie. Our 2009 feedback told us that It was "hands down the most memorable experience of the summer".

Toddler Time

"Why can't I go to camp too?"
Many young children love to be outside, play in the woods and have pony rides but it isn't safe for them to attend a drop off camp.  Toddler time is a great way for younger children to get a small dose of camp under the supervision of a parent or care giver.  Scheduled at pick-up time, this would be a special opportunity for an attending camper to introduce a younger sibling to his/her pony, lead a short pony ride and share all the pony knowledge that has been gained during the camp day.  Toddler time is by appointment only and can be arranged ahead of time or during the camp week.

Private lessons

While campers do get individual riding instruction throughout the week, many want and can benefit from addition riding instruction. This opportunity also helps accommodate early drop off and late pick ups. Students can work on any aspect of their riding. Lessons start as early as 9:00 and can run as late as 4:30.
