Many first time riders have questions regarding what equipment and attire they need as well as what to expect.

We encourage our lesson children to come a little early so that they can retrieve their pony from the field, groom and tack up. They should wear sturdy shoes. Absolutely no open toe shoes or crocs will be permitted around the ponies. When the student is ready for an investment in riding, they should purchase a pair of paddock boots or tall riding boot (rubber or leather). We prefer paddock boots for riders under the age of 10.

We provide adjustable schooling helmets but the US Equestrian Association strongly recommends a professionally fitted riding helmet. Riders should have tidy hair that is pulled back out of their eyes and secured in low pigtails or pony tail so that the helmet can fit securely. Riders should wear long pants, jeans are fine. Again, when the time is right, Saddle Club riders typically ride in breeches, johdpurs or schooling tights. it is appropriate for children to wear a collared shirt, belt and grippy gloves but we do not have a specific dress code.
